Folllowing two years of planning and the securing of external funding to help cover the costs of refurbishing the building, the long awaited development of the Geraldton Youth Centre began in November 2024. More here
The City-run centre will create a stronger sense of belonging and connection to community for young people in Geraldton. It will be a dedicated space and safe environment for younger members of our community to engage in a variety of year round programs including diversionary sports and recreation activities, art, leadership opportunities, community events along with training programs committed to supporting young people.
City staff who have been running youth programs for years including the popular School Holiday Program will soon have a dedicated facility to host their programs and activities.
The project is joint funded with Lotterywest providing support of up to $954,221 to fund the refurbishment of the building to include a multi-use sports court with spectator area and a multi-functional space for activities such as workshops, presentations and meetings.
The refurbishment, being undertaken by local contractor GBSC, is expected to be completed by June 2025.
Enhancing our lifestyle through spaces, places, programs and services that foster connection and inclusion is a key part of the City’s Strategic Community Plan, and this project is a step towards achieving that.
