Batteries Household

Your household batteries can be deposited in a variety of collection bins at the City of Greater Geraldton. By recycling your batteries, you help reduce risk of fires in our waste facilities.

Do’s and Don'ts for Battery Disposal

Do’s

  • Do safely remove batteries from devices before disposal.
  • Do bring batteries to designated collection sites:
    • Civic Centre, Cathedral Avenue Geraldton
    • Meru Waste Management Facility Weighbridge Office, Landfill Lane, Narngulu
    • Geraldton Regional Library, Marine Terrace Geraldton
    • Geraldton Aquarena, Pass Street Geraldton
  • Do participate in the Household Hazardous Waste program to ensure safe and proper recycling.
  • Do tape your batteries’ terminals with clear sticky tape to prevent sparking.
  • Do store taped batteries in a clearly labelled glass container.
  • Do keep the container in a cool, dry place away from any heat source.

Don’ts

  • Don’t dispose of batteries in regular household or public bins.
  • Don’t mix batteries with general waste or recycling bins.
  • Don’t store batteries in a way that allows terminals to touch, as this can cause fires.

By following these guidelines, you help protect our environment and support city-wide recycling efforts. Thank you for your cooperation!
