Geraldton’s #1 attraction the HMAS Sydney II Memorial has a number of significant elements and Synergy, which provides power to more than 32,000 customers in Geraldton, has renewed its support to ensure one of the key elements is powered around the clock.
The Eternal Flame, housed in the Dome of Souls, is symbolic of the 645 crew who lost their lives and is a constant reminder of the sacrifice they made for us all.
Thanks to a partnership between Synergy and the City of Greater Geraldton, the Eternal Flame will remain lit both day and night.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanks Synergy for their support.
“It’s great to formalise the partnership between Synergy and the City, and I hope it’s one we can continue for years to come,” he said.
“The HMAS Sydney II Memorial is Geraldton’s #1 attraction and when you visit this premiere site you’ll understand why. Travellers from all over the nation and globe continually rate it five out of five stars on TripAdvisor and locals describe it as a must-see.
“Thanks to Synergy, the Eternal Flame will continue to shine bright and acknowledge the 645 men who gave their lives for us.”
The Eternal Flame is a double lantern that features one red light and one green light, which is symbolic of the HMAS Sydney’s port and starboard lights.
Synergy Manager Corporate Communications Clare Lugar said Synergy recognised the significance of the Eternal Flame to the City of Greater Geraldton community.
“Synergy is delighted to recommit for another three-year term to ensure the flame continues to burn brightly,” she said.
“We have a strong presence in the region through our Schools Virtual Power Plant Pilot Project, the installation of electric vehicle fast charging network infrastructure and the WALGA Green Energy Agreement, which will see the Council purchase renewable power for its energy needs.
“This partnership further strengthens our important relationship with the City of Greater Geraldton.”
The partnership between Synergy and the City of Greater Geraldton officially commenced on Tuesday 8 March however, the electricity and gas provider has been powering the Eternal Flame for some time.
