If you are looking to green up your yard then you won’t want to miss the Community Nursery’s annual End of Season Sale taking place the first weekend in July.
Every year, local native seedlings grown by volunteers that weren’t required for revegetation projects on coastal and inland reserves go on sale to the public.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said interested community members shouldn’t delay as it will be first in best dressed on the day.
“I strongly suggest anyone interested in buying native seedlings to get there early as it won’t take long till the plants are sold out,” he said.
The gates at the Nursery, located at 31 Adelaide Street in Waggrakine, will open at 9.00am on Sunday 2 July 2023.
Plant purchases can be made with either cash or EFTPOS, enclosed shoes are essential and don’t forget to bring a box or bag to carry your plants home before the sale ends at 11.00am.
This year, 25,000 seedlings were grown by Community Nursery volunteers of which 22,000 have been planted in City bushland and coastal reserves.
Since 2012, more than 524,000 seedlings, trees and shrubs have been planted by residents, community groups, schools and local businesses and registered towards the Million Trees project.
“Greening our City is a top community priority and if we all work together to plant trees and shrubs across our City region we will be creating a lasting legacy for our future generations,” added Mayor Van Styn.
Members of the community who have greened their properties in the last ten years can register their plantings towards the project on the City website here
