Geraldton Regional Art Gallery - Mural

Artists could have their artwork showcased in one of the CBD’s most well-known locations with Expressions of Interest (EOI) now open for a large scale mural!

The City of Greater Geraldton is seeking EOIs for an artist or artists to create a new mural on the rear wall of the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (GRAG).

With the aim to integrate more art into public spaces within the City and enhance the visitor experience, the new mural will also beautify the streetscape in the vicinity of the recently upgraded GRAG Park.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the prominent piece would be a huge opportunity for the chosen artist.

“Given the scale of the mural and the fact it will be located in such a high-traffic area means this project will make and extremely big impact on the space,” he said.

“It is a massive opportunity for an artist to have their work displayed on one of our most iconic buildings.

“We know how much our community love and enjoy public art, so we encourage artists to read more about the EOI and help us to add even more vibrancy to our city.”

The artwork is planned to be located on the GRAG rear wall facing the Post Office carpark and wrap around the side wall along Durlacher Street.

The successful artist will also deliver an upskilling opportunity for locals, resulting in the delivery of a second small scale community mural at a different site to be determined.

All EOIs should be submitted by close of business Friday 25 August 2023, with the aim for the mural to be completed by December 2023.

More details and the full artist brief are available on the GRAG website at https://artgallery.cgg.wa.gov.au/public-art/large-scale-mural-opportunity.aspx
