Mullewa’s Youth Centre will continue to play an important role in the local community after a recent extension of funding.
In an announcement by the Department of Communities, there is now a one year extension of the current funding until 30 June 2020.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the funding was crucial to keep the Youth Centre alive and running.
“More than 80 youth in Mullewa and surrounding areas visit the Centre every month as a drop in service,” he said.
“Not only does the Centre provide a range of diversionary activities but it also provides local youth with healthy food options and important life skills.
“It’s essential for the Mullewa community that we secure this funding on an ongoing basis as the flow on effects are massive.”
The funding from the Department of Communities pays for staffing of the Centre as well as school holiday activities.
There is a wider funding review currently being undertaken by the Department as the funds are at risk of being lost after 2020.
The Centre is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2-8pm and Saturdays from 11am-7.30pm.
