Local initiatives boosted by Community Grants

Local community projects will be levelling up in the coming months following the City of Greater Geraldton announcing the recipients of Round 31 of the Community Grants Program.

A total of 14 community and sporting groups have secured portions of $75,000 to assist with the delivery of events, competitions, education programs and facility upgrades.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune paid tribute to the contribution not-for-profits, clubs and organisations play in the region.

“Greater Geraldton is blessed with passionate and enthusiastic groups who go above and beyond to enhance the social fabric of our community,” he said.

“Our Community Grants Program is about supporting these groups and helping take their offerings to the next level.

“This latest cohort of successful community grant funding recipients have some brilliant projects in the pipeline, and I am really excited to see them come to fruition.”

Community groups who secured funding in Round 31 include:

  • Walkaway Amateur Basketball Association Inc. $9,250 for basketball stadium upgrades 
  • Regional Sounds Inc. $2,500 for production of the Buskers Guide to Geraldton and community performances
  • Geraldton Windsurfing Club $8,300 for the delivery of the Oceania Youth Wave Competition & Junior Windsurfing Camp
  • GNFL Umpires Association Inc. $2,200 for a football umpiring communication system
  • Batavia Coast Miniature Railway Society Inc. $2,000 for the replacement of 150m of railway track
  • Fremantle Chamber Orchestra $8,000 for the delivery of Music to Love at St Francis Xavier Cathedral
  • Beachlands Primary School P&C Association $1,710 for the Beachlands Family Fun Day
  • Swimming WA Inc. $10,000 for the delivery of Geraldton's Big Ocean Community Swim
  • Geraldton Squash Racquets Association Inc. $5,500 for 24Hr facility access and a security upgrade
  • Mid West Sports Federation $2,500 2024 for the delivery of the Mid West Sports Awards
  • Ngala Community Services $3,000 for the delivery of Free Infant First Aid
  • Desert Blue Connect $7,500 for the delivery of Safe and Sound: Security Solutions for Survivors
  • Geraldton Tree Canopy Advocates $2,540 for a water carrying trailer
  • Geraldton Cultural Trust on behalf of Geraldton Pottery Club $10,000 for the purchase of a new pottery kiln

In addition to the Community Grants Program the City also offers the Community Project Support Program, with applications for Round 1 now open until 5pm 15 November 2024.
