Geraldton Regional Library will host a special evening this month, celebrating Geraldton born author Holden Sheppard’s book “Invisible Boys.”
Since release in 2019, the novel has won multiple awards, including the 2019 WA Premier’s Prize for an Emerging Writer and has now been adapted as a 10-episode television series premiering on Stan Australia later this month.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said the event is a great opportunity to meet a local literary superstar.
“Holden Sheppard is one of our City’s most brilliant creative successes,” he said.
“Books like this one have the incredible ability to bring people together and shine a light on stories that deserve to be heard.
“The launch of Invisible Boys is not just a celebration of a remarkable book, it is also a fantastic opportunity to rub shoulders with an award-winning wordsmith.”
“We’re delighted that a local talent has written a book that resonates with so many people and adds to the growing cultural footprint of our beautiful City,” concluded Mayor Clune.
Holden Sheppard, who is one of only a handful of people to have seen the television series and is thrilled by the way it turned out.
“My hometown of Gero – and the rest of the Midwest – looks absolutely phenomenal on screen. Lead actors, Joseph, Aydan, Zach and Joe, have perfectly captured the essences of Charlie, Zeke, Hammer and Matt – better than I could ever have hoped for,” he said.
“To fans of the novel: get ready, it’s awesome.”
Mr Sheppard will be in conversation with ABC Midwest Wheatbelt Editor Natasha Harradine delving into his time growing up in Geraldton and journey in developing the novel.
This event will take place between 6pm - 8pm Friday 28 February at Geraldton Regional Library, tickets are limited and on sale now through Humanitix by clicking here.
