Those living in Perth and around the state will soon have Geraldton top of mind thanks to a new tourism campaign that encourages visitors to come stay and play.

Vinyl covered buses in the Perth CBD, TV, cinema and newspaper advertising as well as social media promotions are just some of the campaign elements being rolled out by the City of Greater Geraldton to attract families and couples to the region.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the goal was for Geraldton to become the #1 holiday spot in the state.

“Last year we were named as one of Wotif.com’s Top WA Family Destinations and we want to keep building on that, eventually becoming #1,” he said.

“This campaign that the entire state is about to see has been carefully planned and forms part of our Tourism Destination Management Strategy as part of the Growing Greater Geraldton Growth Plan.

“We are doing all that we can to grow and promote tourism in Geraldton and it is now up to our local businesses and operators to get behind these promotions and activities.”

Both TV and Orana Cinema viewers will see a 15 and 30 second advertisement that depicts a couple visiting Geraldton for the first time while buses featuring seals at the Abrolhos Islands, the Geraldton Foreshore and wildflower season will also be roaming the Perth CBD for the next few weeks.

Earlier this year the City also redeveloped the Visit Geraldton website to showcase what’s on offer and provide visitors with a more user-friendly service, coordinated a visit from Tourism WA stakeholders and most recently became a “film friendly” destination making it is easier for commercial companies to film.

“Because Geraldton is film friendly we were able to get great exposure through Our State on a Plate and iFish TV, which I was fortunate to be part of and showcase some of the best fishing spots around Greater Geraldton,” finished Mayor Van Styn.
