Increasing accommodation and industrial capacity were front of mind when City of Greater Geraldton representatives met with the Hon John Carey BA MLA, Minister for Planning; Lands; Housing and Homelessness last week.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune along with City Director of Development Services Ryan Hall discussed enterprising initiatives including the proposed Mahomets Flats Holiday Park and Accommodation Village, the Olive Street Housing Project and the Future Industrial Land Project with Minister Carey.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune was positive following the meeting.

“Collaboration across all levels of government is vital in order to address our City’s evolving needs,” he said.

“Currently both the Mahomets Flats Holiday Park and Accommodation Village as well as the Olive Street Housing Project are in the early concept planning and investigation stages, and providing they receive Council endorsement along with financial support from the State Government they will offer strategic responses by the City to help alleviate Geraldton’s accommodation crisis.

“Increasingly we have received feedback from the development sector that Geraldton requires additional industrial space. The Future Industrial Land Project seeks to bolster economic growth in our region by allowing for expansion by local businesses as well as attracting new investment”.

“It was encouraging that the Minister was receptive to the proposed initiatives, and I am optimistic about all three progressing,” added Mayor Clune.

Mahomets Flats Holiday Park and Accommodation Village concept design features 32 caravan and 137 one-, two-, and three-bedroom prefabricated units in the key worker accommodation section and 132 caravan and camping sites and 21 two-bedroom units in the short-stay section of the Holiday Village.

The Olive Street Housing Project proposes the construction of seven four-bedroom homes on prime residential lots adjacent to the Olive Street reserve. This initiative aims to provide quality housing options in a desirable location, contributing to the City’s urban renewal and community development.

Further information regarding these exiting initiatives will be available in the coming months.
