Growth has come out on top in the City of Greater Geraldton Budget 2024/25 with a big emphasis on increased efficiency to facilitate investment.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said providing long term sustainable opportunities for residents and businesses remains a top priority.

“Ensuring our City’s Planning Framework is constantly improving to enhance clarity and meet the evolving needs of those looking to invest in our region remains of great importance to us,” he said.

“Last financial year Greater Geraldton experienced a ten year high in development applications totalling over $144 million, and we have committed to further streamlining our approval process to achieve industry leading timeframes.

“Looking forward, Council is committed to activating lazy land and increasing our long, medium and short-term accommodation supply to attract and retain both key workers and skilled professionals in our region.

“Whilst looking to the future and actively encouraging large scale renewable energy and green industry projects, the City is also committed to ensuring that funding is made available for conservation and maintenance works of our beloved heritage buildings,” added Mayor Clune.

Budget 2024/25 will see $135,000 apportioned to investigating future industrial land for development and $100,000 invested in reviewing the City’s Local Planning Policy bringing it up to date and making it more efficient.

$50,000 has been allocated for a review of the 600 heritage places in Greater Geraldton helping to preserve the heritage of the Midwest.
