Big Ocean Community Swim

Saturday 1st February 2025

Geraldton will host the Big Ocean Community Swim on 1st February 2025.

In partnership with Masters Swimming WA, Swimming WA is bringing its Open Water Swimming (OWS) Series to the region. The OWS Series is the largest series of open water swimming events in Australia, attracting between 500 to 1,000 competitors from across the country. This exciting new event will welcome participants of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to elite.

The swim will take place in Champion Bay, just off the Geraldton Foreshore, featuring a 500m "Come and Try" swim, along with 1.25km and 2.5km distance options.

Open water swimming is gaining popularity across Australia and around the world. With its world-class sandy beaches and pristine waters, WA is a premier destination for large ocean swims. The 2025 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships will be held in Busselton the week prior, marking the third consecutive year the event will take place there.

Emily Randall, CEO of Swimming WA, commented: “We are thrilled to bring this large community ocean swim to Geraldton. Swimming is an essential part of West Australian life, and these events are designed for the entire community, showcasing WA’s stunning public beaches and ocean waters.”

The event is proudly supported by the City of Greater Geraldton and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
