Vibrancy programs and events for local youth will continue to make a positive impact in the community thanks to generous support from Rio Tinto.
An extended agreement of $180,000 over a further three years from Rio Tinto, will part fund the City of Greater Geraldton’s Youth Vibrancy Officer role and go towards supporting many local events for the Midwest.
What began in 2016 has now flourished into a partnership that continues to deliver positive outcomes and opportunities, many of which have become annual staples in Geraldton’s events calendar.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the ongoing agreement facilitates the continuation of various programs and thanked Rio Tinto for their substantial support.
“We are extremely proud of this partnership, which continues to solidify Rio Tinto and the City’s commitment to activation and vibrancy in our community,” he said.
“The Youth Vibrancy Officer role facilitates and delivers programs and events such as Battle of the Bands, Revolve Skate Series and the School Holiday Program.
“Programs like these help to bring our community together and boost wellbeing and the amazing liveability of our city.
“We extend our sincere thanks to Rio Tinto for allowing us to bring out the best of Geraldton with these wonderful initiatives,” he added.
The part funded role also facilitates programs including Sundays by the Sea, Films on the Foreshore and Sunset Yoga.
Rio Tinto General Manager Communities and Communications Ainslie Bourne said she was proud of the long-standing partnership with the City.
“We look forward to seeing the positive impact this agreement extension, and increased funding, will have on youth living in the Midwest region,” she said.
The recently signed Geraldton Youth Partnership agreement will remain in place until 2024.
