Upgrades to the Mullewa Mingenew Road to bring it up to RAV 7 standards have been completed just in time for the harvest season.
Undertaken at the request of the Greater Geraldton community and Main Roads WA the City upgraded the road to align it with the existing RAV 7 classification on the southern section of the road.
The works included widening at four bends to make them safer for RAV 7 vehicles, repairs to the road shoulders and reconfiguring the intersection with the Geraldton Mount Magnet Road by altering medians and widening to better accommodate turning vehicles.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said consistency in road network classifications are critical to the local industries.
“The Mullewa Mingenew Road is an important link in our regional road network,” he said.
“It’s critical that this road and other roads that connect towns with major highways have the same classification along their entire length so farmers and the transport industry can utilise the most direct and safest route to get their products to market.
“I’d like to thank our local contractors who got this big job done before the harvest season.”
The $200,000 upgrade, delivered by local contractors, was funded by the City of Greater Geraldton.
