A duo of beloved Midwest recreation venues are one step closer to upgrading their facilities following unanimous Council decisions to support their funding applications to the State Government’s Community Sporting & Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) July Small Grant Round.
A project at Mullewa Football Club’s ground has received Council’s support in applying for a CRSFF grant of $29,585 to install a chain link fence around the Mullewa Recreation Ground whilst Geraldton Hotrod and Country Club (Geraldton City Speedway) will receive support for their application for a $22,259 grant to install a new LED race lighting control system and lap timing controllers.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said the support offered by the CSRFF assists sporting clubs to develop and improve their infrastructure.
“The CSRFF funding program is open to all sporting clubs who want to increase participation in their particular sport or activity through improving facilities,” he said.
“Council is always enthusiastic about supporting clubs who are keen to enhance their facilities which ultimately benefits the community and makes our region a better place to live.
“The proposed fence for the Mullewa Recreation Ground will help to maintain a vital component of the sporting and social fabric of Mullewa.”
“Geraldton City Speedway is a successful long running club and the new lighting will bring the venue into line with the quality of facilities otherwise only found at metropolitan clubs,” added Mayor Clune.
CSRFF Small Round grants are offered as up to 50% funding contributions from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The remaining 50% of project costs are equally shared by the applicant and the City.
