A massive upgrade to the AMC Park in Spalding that will significantly change the way the public open space is used has received major support from Lotterywest to complete the works.
The $1,445,572 grant will fund the construction of an adventurous playground, basketball court, public art, yarning/education circle, covered picnic nodes, new pathways and landscaping and a bush tucker garden.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn welcomes the additional funding for the project that was designed by local community members of all ages and backgrounds.
“The AMC Park Masterplan was developed by the Spalding Urban Renewal Team made up of local residents and business operators, area service providers and year six Bluff Point Primary School students,” he said.
“The plan they came up with includes something for everyone and will completely transform the park and how the Mitchell Street Community Centre is used.
“I’d like to thank Lotterywest for being a major supporter of the project by providing very generous grant funding that will see the aspirations and ideas of the community for this space come to life.”
The AMC Park Upgrade is part of the Spalding Revitalisation Project that involves refurbishing older public housing properties in the area and creating new road extensions to make it easier for community members to access the Mitchell Street Community Centre.
Project construction began on 1 May 2023 and is estimated to be completed by the end of the year.
