Residents and local history enthusiasts are being encouraged to help uncover and preserve the region's past as part of the City of Greater Geraldton's comprehensive review of local heritage places.
Community feedback is being sought to ensure the Local Heritage Survey, which identifies and records places of cultural heritage significance, remains accurate and is reflective of local knowledge while supporting future planning, conservation and community education.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said the review presents an important opportunity to capture and preserve the stories that have helped our region.
"Our heritage is about much more than buildings. It's about the stories, people and events that have contributed to the identity of our community over generations,” he said.
"Many residents hold valuable stories, memories, photographs and historical information that can help us better understand the places that have shaped our community, and we encourage them to share that knowledge with us.
"Their contributions will help create a more complete and accurate record of Greater Geraldton’s past while ensuring important places and their stories are preserved for our descendants."
Community members can review heritage place records and provide additional information about their history or local significance via the City's website here.
Feedback closes at 5pm on Monday 26 October 2026.
This program aligns with the Leading theme of the City’s Strategic Community Plan which reflects the organisation’s commitment to engaging with the community to enhance decision making.
