When good neighbours become good friends

Getting to know your neighbours has been made easy thanks to the City of Greater Geraldton’s support of Neighbour Day celebrations.

Neighbour Days promote the building of respectful and sustainable relationships through events focussed around fostering social connection.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn is enthusiastic about the initiative.

“The research is clear, when people connect with their communities, they have a greater sense of belonging, which leads to improved mental well-being and a reduction in loneliness,” he said.

“Building relationships with those around us also helps to strengthen our resilience for when we are faced with life’s inevitable challenges.

“We hope that through supporting these get togethers people will take the opportunity to get to know those who live closest to them over a picnic, a morning tea or a sausage sizzle in the park.”

The City is providing the Rangeway Utakarra Karloo Progress Association, Beachlands Community Inc, Drummond Cove Playgroup and Sunset Beach Community Group each with $300 Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Cards in order to assist in funding Neighbour Day gatherings.
