Calling all gardening enthusiasts, you are invited to the relaunch of the Mitchell Street Community Garden.

As part of the celebration Bunnings will be hosting a hands-on workshop covering everything you need to know about growing your own herbs and vegetables as well as composting.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is giving the event a green thumbs up and encouraging all would be gardeners to attend.

“It is no secret that planting, tending and growing your own food has a multitude of physical and mental health benefits,” he said.

“We are extremely fortunate to have a fantastic climate here in the Midwest for growing all sorts of produce, and this is an outstanding opportunity to learn from experts in the field.

“So, whether you are a newbie wanting to sow your first seeds or an experienced gardener looking to pick up a few tips I urge everyone with an interest in gardening to join us at the Mitchell Street Community Garden for a horticultural experience not to be missed.”

Mitchell Street Community Garden, located behind the Mitchell Street Community Centre, is part of the Spalding Revitalisation Project delivered by the City in partnership with the Department of Communities and Lotterywest.

The project aims to improve community sustainability through rejuvenating the heart of Spalding by creating a safe, inclusive, accessible, well connected and sustainable central hub, where the community can come together to learn, recreate and celebrate in a beautiful parkland setting.

Mitchell Street Community Garden workshop hosted by Bunnings is scheduled for Friday 19 July between 10.30am- 12pm.
