Works to refresh the seal of a secondary runway at the Geraldton Airport will be undertaken in 2023/24 thanks to generous funding from the Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS).

A total of $165,000 has been allocated to refresh Runway 14/32 at the Airport, paving the way for longevity of the strip to continue to support aviation services in the Midwest.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanked the state government for their support in sustaining Geraldton’s air services.

“It’s important for us to have the continued ability to accommodate aircrafts in and out of Geraldton, and ensuring our runways are in tiptop shape is crucial for this service,” he said.

“Geraldton Airport provides an important whole-of-network role in state-wide aviation as well as a critical role in our services such as tourism and export industries.”

RADS grants provide funding to regional and remote airports, improving safety, capacity, capability, planning and security, as well as increasing regional access to health services, connecting communities and expanding business opportunities.

Geraldton was among 17 airports sharing in $3 million in grant funding, which provides up to 50 per cent of the total cost of the project.

The City will look to tender for the scope of works in the coming months and complete the works in the next financial year.
