Programs, projects, events and initiatives will form the basis of the City of Greater Geraldton’s new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Recently, endorsed by Council and Reconciliation Australia, the Innovate RAP 2024-2026 reflects the City’s commitment to the process of reconciliation and strengthening its ties between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune was thrilled to introduce the City’s new Innovate RAP.

“This plan is the culmination of three years of engagement where common ideas and actions to improve relationships, opportunities and respect between the City and our region’s First Nations were identified and prioritised,” he said.

“The new RAP highlights City measures that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s fair and equitable access to the City’s resources and services while increasing our ability to support and address the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, both now and in the future.

“I am pleased the Southern Yamatji peoples, who are the Traditional Owners of the Midwest, and all other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will continue to have the City’s support and recognition.”

“I would also like to thank all the stakeholders, both internal and external, for their knowledge and feedback in bringing this important document together. We look forward to our journey towards reconciliation and celebrating the outcomes we achieve together,” added Mayor Clune.

The City of Greater Geraldton Innovate RAP was officially launched on Tuesday 16 July during an afternoon tea for the working group, stakeholders, City Councillors and staff at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre.
