Funding boost for Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival

Geraldton Regional Library’s premier event Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival is set to benefit following a successful application to the State Government’s Regional Arts and Cultural Investment Program (RACIP).  

A total of $27,550 was awarded through a RACIP Arts Activities in Regional Communities grant that will help to deliver the event and continue to attract a high calibre of literary guests.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune thanked the State Government for their support.

“This year’s Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival is on course to be the biggest and best yet” he said.

“With the help of this grant, we will be able to attract a variety of engaging authors as well as develop our local wordsmiths.

“We appreciate the State Government's continued commitment to enhancing the Midwest's arts and cultural landscape.”

Celebrating its 19th year, Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival has become a staple event in the Midwest, celebrating all that is literary.

Member for Geraldton Lara Dalton MLA said she was glad to see the Festival receive additional funding.

“Geraldton is home to internationally renowned writers who have an incredible talent in storytelling, it's great to see Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival receive additional funding in its 19th year to help promote our literary greats and develop the skills of emerging writers” she said.

Submissions for Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival Short Story Prize are open until Friday 12 July. 

Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival will return with another fantastic program later this year.
