Geraldton is one-step closer to claiming the top holiday spot in the state after being named a finalist in the 2024 7NEWS Top Tourism Town Awards, now the public have the opportunity to vote and help Geraldton secure the win.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune encouraged everyone to get behind Geraldton.

“There is some great competition, and we are calling on everyone who’s visited, planning a trip or lives here to help us claim the title of Top Tourism Town for 2024,” he said.

“Geraldton has the best of coastal city living – we’ve got a vibrant CBD, fantastic local operators, breathtaking natural assets, near perfect year-round weather, world-class events and a welcoming community.

“After receiving silver medals in 2022 and 2023 significantly more people are stopping off to enjoy the Midwest and a gold medal this year would assist in getting even more folk to experience the beauty of our region.”

The Awards recognise and reward towns in Western Australia that demonstrate a strong commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation.

Geraldton has been named a finalist in the ‘population over 5,000 people’ category and if successful, will secure a $20,000 television advertising package to market the destination.

There’s also something in it for the voters who will go in the running to win a $5,000 WA travel voucher or a two-night stay at RAC Karri Valley Resort for two adults.

Voting closes on Wednesday 22 May and the winner will be announced at the 2024 Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference on Wednesday 11 June.
