Durlacher - Maitland Streets Roundabout
Construction of a roundabout at the Durlacher- Maitland Streets T-intersection, an identified Black Spot and one of the busiest intersections in the CBD, began on 19 October 2020 and reopened to traffic on 18 December 2020.
Local contractors Red Dust Holdings undertook the works with Parscape Geraldton providing the landscaping. Read more here
Construction of the roundabout included utility services relocations, construction of a new service road for businesses located at the intersection and the removal of six small trees and five large Norfolk Pine trees. The loss of these trees is being offset with tree plantings in public open spaces. Check out the City Centre Revitalisation 3D fly though video here
To safely facilitate the construction of the roundabout, the T-intersection was closed. Read more here
Over the years traffic congestion has steadily increased along Durlacher and Maitland Streets in the vicinity of the schools with almost 9,000 vehicles traveling through the intersection every day. The project has greatly improved traffic safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians and also improved traffic flow in the area.
