Beresford Foreshore Coastal Protection Works

In early July 2016 Minister for Regional Development and Lands Terry Redman announced the State Government would help fund the coastal protection works along the Beresford Foreshore between Marina Beach (Midalia’s Beach) and Trigg Street.

On Tuesday 22 November, Council awarded construction of the Beresford Foreshore Coastal Protection and Enhancement works to Central Earthmoving, a Geraldton based civil contractor with more than 30 years’ experience delivering civil construction, mining services, road, land development and land care projects throughout regional WA. 

Project protection works involve near-shore works to mitigate erosion including a protective 100m breakwater extension to the detached breakwater, a 45m extension to the existing groyne and three shore based rock revetment structures.

Coastal protection works, which began in January 2017, have since been completed at Midalia Beach and along the 1.8km long Foreshore.

The second phase of the project which involves amenities works along the Beresford Foreshore including landscaping, barbeques, picnic settings, benches, bicycle racks, showers, playground equipment, lighting, drinking fountains, shade structures and a toilet block was undertaking following the completion of the protection works and was officially opened in October 2018.

The $23.1 million project was jointly funded with Royalties for Regions contributing $17.28 million, Mid West Ports Authority $4 million and the City $1.85 million towards amenities.
