Sports Grounds Lighting Renewal Projects

Sports play a huge role in Geraldton’s identity and lifestyle with more and more clubs opting to train at night to avoid the summer heat. As a result, floodlighting lighting plays a critical role in the health and safety of players. Adequate nighttime lighting may also enable clubs to potentially attract regional and state wide sporting events to the City which also benefits the local economy.

Following an audit review of all City region sporting tower floodlighting conducted in early 2018, and priority list of sporting lighting renewals was developed. Since then, the City has been working closely with the sporting clubs to renew lighting at playing fields across the City region. More here

Sports grounds lighting renewals are often funded with the assistance of the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreational Facilities Fund (CSRFF). These grants are offered as a one-third funding contribution from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) with the remaining two-thirds coming from the City of Greater Geraldton and the sporting group.

Woorree Park BMX Track

Local contractor Verlindens Electrical Service  was awarded the $86,270 contract to replace the existing three poles and the metal halide floodlighting with new poles and energy efficient LED lights. The State Government’s CSRFF contributed $20,973 towards the upgrade.

Works began in December 2020 and were completed in January 2021. More here

Eighth Street West

Local contractir Elite Electrical was awarded the $62,948 contract to replace the existing 80 lux metal halide luminaries with 200 lux luminaries. The State Government’s CSRFF contributed $25,300 towards the upgrade.

Works began in November 2020 and were completed in December 2020. More here

Alexander Park

Local contractor Elite Electrical was awarded the $1.1 million contract to install six, 100-150 LUX LED lights on 30m tall light towers at Alexander Park and four, 100-150 LUX LED lights on 30m tall light towers at the Greenough Oval..

Works at Alexander Park  began 8 November 2018 and were completed in March 2019. More here

Greenough Oval

Local contractor Elite Electrical was awarded the $1.1 million contract to install four, 100-150 LUX LED lights on 30m tall light towers at the Greenough Oval and six, 100-150 LUX LED lights on 30m tall light towers at Alexander Park.

Works at the Greenough Oval began on 26 November 2018 and were completed in March 2019. More here
