The Mullewa Recreation Centre and Mullewa Sports Club have been given a new lease on life with the recent completion of upgrades to modernise the facilities.
Recreation Centre upgrades included the replacement of the roof sheeting and interior hall lighting with energy efficient LED luminaries, the installation of a fully compliant universal access toilet block and roller shutters on the windows and the repair and resealing of the access road.
The roof of the Sports Club, located next door to the Recreation Centre, was also re-sheeted and new air conditioning was installed to replace the aged evaporative system that has reached its end of life.
The nearly $600,000 upgrades were joint funded with the Mullewa District Agricultural Society securing two Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants totalling $398,634 and the City contributing $200,000 from the annual Budget.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanked the Mullewa District Agricultural Society for their efforts to help fund the works.
“The City welcomes community groups taking an active role in securing grant funding to help maintain and improve sporting and community facilities,” he said.
“I’d like to thank the Ag Society for showing such initiative and the outcome, certainly speaks for itself.”
Mullewa District Agricultural Society President Peter Barnetson said it was great to work together with the City on the upgrades.
“This is a great example of how the City and a not-for-profit community group can work together to get a big job done,” he said.
